i hate sprint. officially. hate them. do you know anyone in monterrey mexico? yeah, me neither. but apparently my phone does. and it's been calling regularly... $224 worth of regularity. and apparently we can't dispute the calls until they are actually billed. the lady told me they were calls made throughout my billing cycle on to multiple phone numbers, but could not tell me any more details regarding specific dates or times of said calls until the end of my billing cycle. so i checked my phone's outgoing call list, expecting to find 150 minutes worth of calls made by ??? to ??? and instead found the last 20 phone numbers that were called were all to people located in the good ole' usofa. for the love. it never ends.

and while i was lamenting to myself about how awful all this was, i remembered a patient we saw today. i'm on heme/onc. hematology/oncology. blood/cancer. she's 54, nonsmoker, nondrinker and until 2 weeks ago, she was healthy. then she went to the doctor and found out she had lung cancer so she started radiation right away. today she came back and we told her that it was in her brain, her liver and her bones too. if we do nothing she'll die in 6 weeks. if we do horribly nasty therapy that starts with a dangerous surgery to place a catheter into her brain, she may get 14 weeks, but she'll be very sick the whole time. makes my $200 phone bill seem a little trivial, eh?

so, goals... well, sorry i'm late. i've been busy crossing things off lists. turns out i didn't exactly meet last week's goal. i had a little run-in with the norwalk virus that rendered me unable to leave my apartment for a couple days. but... it was a good way to jump start weight loss... i'm down 5.1 lbs.
this week's goal: gym 4 times (i've already been twice)
short term goal: button white coat
end-all be-all goal: 140 lbs.

*Dirty word here*
I think big companies go out of their way to screw people over. Someone sits around and thinks up these loopholes just to squeeze another dime out of somebody. How did you happen to know this was a problem before your bill showed up?
Scary story. I still don't know if I would want to know if I was going to die. I think I would want to be blissfully unaware for six weeks instead of mourning myself and my sad little life the whole time. Dunno...hope I don't have to pick!
or 2000 dimes, as the case may be... i knew it prior to my billing because my service was shut off because the incessant calling put me over my "spending limit"... my service shuts off if the charges exceed $200. so, i didn't have service yesterday, checked my account online, and there you have it. 150 "roaming minutes," which, when i called to see what was up, i learned were actually "calling outside the country at $1 per minute" minutes.
the problem with not telling her is two-fold... 1. if she wanted to be aggressive, we needed to know now. some people want to do as much as they can and hope to be the 1 in a million who might get better. 2. she's not going to be blissfully unaware. she's going to be in a lot of pain, so we needed to discuss hospice care and all. i agree though, the whole thing sucks. bad.
I hope I don't ever have a run in with Sprint...I actually have enjoyed them for the most part. The only complaint I have is that I asked (when we signed up) if they offered a military discount and they said 'no', I called again in November (b/c a friend said they did offer the discount) and they said 'no'...I get the email from Stacy saying they do and finally they say yes they do offer it and have offered it for quite some time but all they could offer me was $25 credit on my next bill...not quite what I was looking for, but whatever, at least they fixed it for all future bills...ANYWAY...
I couldn't even imagine what that lady is going through...I just think life has a funny way of presenting itself in a positive light...positive being...you can live an extra 2 months...BUT...you will basically feel dead until you die...wow...$hitty!
re: virus
...So, you were feeling a little POOPED then, eh? :-)
